Community Project: The Trouble With Troglodytes

Image
[EDIT #2: IT IS DONE! Well, almost. It still needs a wandering monsters/random encounters table. I'll pull that together for the final PDF.] [EDIT: A big fat "HELLO LADIES!" to those of you link-jumping from YDIS . Please feel free to follow pixie whistlebritches's lead and add your own distorted/gonzo/potty-humored room to the mix.] How about a community project? You guys fill this thing out, and I'll compile it into a PDF when it's done. Note #1: I reserve the right to edit entries. Note #2: I'm thinking we need to call this the Marc Pavone Project if the rest of you bastards don't step up soon. Some guidelines: The theme is Troglodytes . Make of this what you will. Use whatever retro-clone stat block you like for monsters & spells & magic items: Swords & Wizardry, Labyrinth Lord, or OSRIC. Everything you post is considered to be Open Game Content, freely offered and free to be reused or remixed once the whole shebang is co...

Conan Vs. Cthulhu Dice Hack

I saw Greg's new call for Howard-inspired Lovecraftian stuff. So I made this . It hasn't been playtested. So please be my playtesters and tell me how it goes.

New Release: Nashka's Lair

Image
I'm happy to release Nashka's Lair , a mini-dungeon for a first-level party using the BECMI/RC rules written by Erin Bisson, who blogs as taichara at A Hamsterish Hoard of Dungeons and Dragons . I've long been a quiet fan of taichara's monster creations and encounter ideas  and magic items . I liked this first level mini-dungeon she posted back in 2009, as it was one of the first things I stumbled across when I returned to the first edition/classic edition RPG scene. I asked if I could compile this encounter as a PDF, and after many starts and stops on my end, here it is.

Merchants have disappeared on the roads and the Tinker now refuses to make his circuit. All of this trouble started when a party of adventurers went to investigate the old temple on the hill. Five adventurers went up the hill to Lilanora’s temple and never returned. Who will follow those foolhardy five and discover what danger lies beneath the temple ruins? Temple of the Ghoul is a FREE adventure module; written specifically to be compatible with OSRIC, it is easily convertible to Original Edition or Advanced Edition rule sets of the world's most popular fantasy roleplaying game.  Designed for low-level characters and available in both hi-res and lo-res versions, it is easily dropped into any beginner-level fantasy roleplaying campaign.  Please downloa...

Building the Sample Dungeon

Remember what it felt like to flip through the Dungeon Master's Guide for the first time and try your hand at stocking the sample dungeon that Gary Gygax so thoughtfully included on page 95? Yeah, me too. And so do a lot of other folks. So, a bunch of people over on the Dragonsfoot forums decided to have a go at stocking the dungeon as a group project. I volunteered to pull it together. Here's the result. It's a work in progress, and still needs a lot of editing, but it is shaping up nicely. Building the Sample Dungeon v0.0a PDF
