The Importance of Jeff & James to the OSR Cannot Be Overstated

Jeff is the number 1 referrer to my little corner of the web.

Spots 2 & 3 belong to Mr. Smith.

What does it say when the top referrers to my blog have been absent from posting for a long time yet STILL manage to drive the most traffic?

So here's a shout out to Jeff & James. May their dwarves never falter and their spells never fizzle! Thanks for feeding all the folk my way, guys.

It's funny, because Jeff's Gameblog is competing with the TVTropes page on Death Ray as my most frequent referrer.

Jeff (#1) accounts for over 4x the traffic that James (#2) has generated to my blog. And while James has brought 150% of the traffic that The Eternal Keep (#3) generated (before ADD Grognard's boycotts and meltdowns followed by an abandonment of role-playing for a return to wargaming to who knows what since all of his sites are now private and for readers only), I do have to say that my inclusion on The Eternal Keep brought me the critical mass of readership I needed early on (it was the #1 referrer for the majority of my first year or so of blogging). But the fact that google searches are my 4th biggest referrer shows the power of keywords+pictures on your blog posts (something I've been planning on posting about for a while).

Yes, but back before they dominated the scene I would say that Society of Torch, Pole, & Rope, as well as ChogWiz and the pre-commercialized LotFP did all the heavy lifting. Which is to say, the OSR will continue to mutate and change, and he old guard will make way for new. People burn out on blogging, unless they keep it fresh and beyond gaming like Zak S, so attrition is inevitable. As grateful as I am to J&J, I'm also excited to see who will contribute in a major way next.

Heh. I know what you mean but I think perhaps you meant to say "cannot be OVERstated".

@ClawCarver: Ow! Now I'm down to 10 HP after taking double damage for the typo!

FIXED.

@Ted, I was using Jeff's blog as a gateway to other cool blogs back before I started up my own. And back then, it was pretty much Jeff and James Mal. who dominated the scene while Raggi was just getting started, and Zak S. still had yet to start.

Jeff has the most comprehensive list of blogs down the right-hand side of his page. I always just go to his page then follow all the links that seem interesting.

Yeah, I'm another who just use Jeffs sidebar as my "blog menu" when I feel like blog surfing as he has the best list (and if he does have a post, it's usually awesome).

People follow the path of least resistance and once Jeffs blog is in your browser as a first choice, it's easier to just keep starting there.

Far and away, the same for me. Third though is Beedo, fourth FrDave, fifth, Paizo. It seems like I used to get more from Tim Brannan and NewBigDragon than I do now.
