IF YOU ENABLE GOOGLE+ COMMENTS ON YOUR BLOG

then only people with Google+ accounts can comment.  I just tried to leave a comment on Erik Tenkar's blog about this new feature. No can do. I keep getting routed to a Google+ sign-up page. No, thanks.

This sucks. It locks out people like me who have chosen not to have a Google+ account but still want to be part of this vital online community.

Please, OSR guys, don't do this.

SERIOUSLY PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!

Don't let the OSR become a walled garden! We need to keep it open to all comers to keep our corner of the hobby growing.

I was not wanting to do this as of yet, I have a problem with social networks like G+ and Facebook.

HHHHMMMM, that sucks....It looks like google is locking it down....

OK so I am with you...

ERIC!

Oh I do have a Google Plus account, but I honestly hardly post, and it is more for checking in on the OSR community...

I'm going to pass on this, but I hear the upcoming GoogleFascist features are going to be killer.

I'm with ya mwschmeer. But I think you're waging an uphill battle with little air support. I read the discussions, pro and con, for Google+ and it seems the very same things some see as a negative, others view as a positive.

as much as i like the fact that it allows me to easy find and follow the discussions on the G+ side that linked with the blog side, i didnt know when i enabled it that it became a G+ profile posting only situation.

reverted back to the old way

it was an interesting couple of hours in any case ;)

I see you, and I raise you:

Bloggers, please enable the "Name/URL" profile in your comment sections.

Blogger's comment widget is buggy as hell. Some Wordpress users can't use their WP profile as Blogger returns a "can't be verified" note when they try to comment. (It's got something to do with the WP log-in name not being the same as the blog name, which is not unusual if you have more than one WP blog!)

When this bug started to show months ago I stopped even trying to comment on Blogger blogs - too much hassle of having to discard a fully formulated answer.

(Now that I learned the log-in name thing I changed my name and it works again but many many other WP users can't do that if their main blog is different from their gaming blog, and they want to comment with their gaming blog name.)

On my own (Wordpress) blog I have enabled the feature that first-time commenters have to be moderated. That caught all spammers nicely as it is usually pretty obvious whether the comment matches the post topic or not.

@mondbuchstaben: I don't see that option in the Blogger dashboard.

Thanks, Matt. I'm on board 100% with this (though you know that). I've been hovering over the "delete blog" button these days and you've held me off for another day.
