Name It & Stat It Challenge 2!

An X-ray of a new species of stingray discovered in the Amazon.

Now, imagine the picture above isn't an X-ray of a stingray. No, imagine this glowing creature inhabits the darkest depths of the deepest, most vile dungeon ever created. What's its name, and how deadly is it?

Name it & stat it! Best stats & description wins a big box of no-prize, plus I'll edit the post to reflect the winning entry.

Good Catch. I almost blogged about that eerie pic. Its a Ghost Ray emitting radiation that allows players to see the Astral plane but makes them sick over time and sterilizes them.

The radiation poisoning is a nice touch!

I don't have stats, but I'd say its an Astral Lure.

The beast dwells on the Astral Plane, but can extend its "tail" in to the Material. There it appears as something the observer would want (unless they make a saving throw at a -2). When the victim grabs the item, the lure has them. It drags them back into the astral over the next 2d8 rounds and eats them unless something stops it.

@Trey: That is seriously awesome--the idea of being yanked between planes to meet your demise. But then, how does it know what you want? Maybe it's telepathic, too?

Combine Telecanter's and Trey's suggestions into a species of telepathic invertebrates who trawl the astral with their tails as psychic lures and who emit a form of radiation that enhances ones ability to perceive the astral, even other planes, but sterilizes you and ultimately kills you. It's very likely addicting. It is also highly sought after by sorcerers who think that they can withstand it. Most can't. No one has. So far.

(Let Telecanter or Trey Name It)
No. Enc.: 1 (1d2)
Alignmant: Chaotic
Movement: 160' (160')
Fly: (160')
Armor Class: 4 (need +1 or better to hit)
Hit Dice: 5
Attacks: 2* (Sting, radiation)
Damage: 1d4+poison, -1 to Con per hour within 10' radius (save +2 if on another plane than the beast)
Save: F3
Morale: 4
Hoard Class: Unknown
XP: Escaping is worth 120, confronting and killing one on its own plane 1,200-3,000 depending on size, if it has spells, etc.

These creatures can use PlaneShift, Paswall, and ESP at will.

*On any successful attack, the creature attempts to wrap it's sticky tail around the victim and begin pulling them across the planar threshold into the astral and onwards to the plane upon which they currently lair.

Some of these things grow to be as massive as a purple worm, others are very intelligent and have levels as spell-casters...and at least one sub-species is vampiric...

A whole table for Planar Transit Effects would come in handy with this critter, and it happens that we are working on one for the coming week...
